This Saturday upon opening my front door I was faced with yet another blizzard snow drift. Not sure my body can continue all of this heavy shoveling! It was so cold and still snowing for most of the day. I put a sign in the window that basically said "If you made it this far, just call and I will open for you." And thank goodness they called, I opened, I had 2 sales for the day! It wasn't a bust after all. This coming weekend should be nice.

Upholstery 101
During the time I went to school for clock repair the class for upholstery was on the first floor of the building. Going to class I could see in and watch and wonder just how do they do all of those upholstery things. After getting my certification for clock repair I then went on to attend the upholstery class. What a wonderful group of people I was privilege to work and learn with. The class was full of energy and life, thank you, Kathy, Matt, Jeanne and Gretchen!
Upholstering is hard work, but the finished project makes it worth while. Here are a few pictures of some of the chairs I have done. And the last one is one I am going to get started on soon.

All about time!
Having been in the antiques business as long as I have, collecting clocks naturally became part of the routine. I had gathered up over 30 clocks that needed some type of repair, mechanics or case. I did a little research on the cost for repairs through some of the local clock shops. The cost for the repairs ranged from $95.00 to $125.00 + parts. A quick check with my accountant, we both agreed, it was more profitable to repair than to sell the clocks out right. Luckily I have a friend who's father was taking a course on clock repair. Emily Griffith Opportunity School in downtown Denver offered the class. The cost to attend class for a semester was equal to have 2 clocks repaired. So, for over 7 years now I have been repairing, selling and winding clocks, almost nonstop on the winding part. I offer my services for at least 1/3 what others charge. Owning my own store provides me that opportunity, low overhead is an important key to success in my case.

The beginning of a new project!
This is the beginning of a new project, as if I didn't have enough to do already. I have owned and operated an Antiques and Collectibles store in the town of Keenesburg Colorado for 16 years now. Over the years I have developed and created several income niches for myself. Aside from the store I have developed the skill of clock repair, upholstery and Website designing. I hope to talk about all of those skills and show different projects that I am working on. I would enjoy your questions and comments at any time. Hope to chat with you soon. http://www.a-step-back.com
